Limeburn Hill Vineyard Beltain Pet Nat Amber 2023
Beltain is an ‘orange’ or ‘amber’ wine due to the golden hues imparted during the skin contact fermentation. It is made with the aromatic Orion grape which has elderflower on the nose, apple, pear and stone fruits on the palate and a delicious savoury complexity.
The fermentation is kick-started with the addition of a pied de cuve - or wild-yeast starter - from grapes picked a few days earlier. The wine is bottled using the ancestral method with a little grape juice sweetness remaining, to allow the final sparkle to form naturally in the bottle. The wine is disgorged, but unfiltered and unfined meaning that it is naturally cloudy. There is no added sugar or sulphites.
Beltain is named for the Celtic festival of spring. Dry, aromatic and delicious on its own, or as a companion for stronger flavours such as mushrooms, asparagus and hard cheese.
