Our Year in Wine

Our Year in Wine

We asked a few members of our team to reflect on their wine experiences and discoveries over the course of 2025:

---

'For my year in wine, I would have to say my trip to Burgundy is the highlight. My wife and I travelled to the Côte d’Or, and stayed at a campsite in Santenay. From here we were completely surrounded by vines. We travelled up and down the region, visiting the different villages and walking among the beautiful grand cru vineyards of each place! It was an incredible experience and incredibly insightful into the prestigious wine region! For that reason, my wine of the year has to be a white Burgundy! More specifically, Meursault, this was our favourite village that we visited.' Jack, Plymouth.

'My year in wine has been full of change - In November, I returned back to Plymouth after almost 10 years in London, working in the wine trade in the big smoke!
Although I have only been with Le Vignoble for a couple of months, I already have some highlights. Meeting my new team has got to be up there, and we're really looking forward to getting stuck in.
Our events in November were fantastic - we tasted some unconventional and outstanding pairings at the Cheese and Wine nights and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting a lot of you at our Grand Christmas Wine Tasting - it was the perfect way to settle into our wonderful wine community down South.
My wine of the year is the Ecker-Eckhof Donatus Grosse Reserve 2021 from Austria as it was the first wine I ever sampled here at Le Vignoble, and I've been a huge fan since!
Roll on 2026 for more events, new wines and good times!' Mhairi, Plymouth

'I’ve been very lucky this year and had the opportunity to try some incredible wines, visit some beautiful chateaus and taste special back vintages. I typically favour New World wines, but this year I’ve gone back to the classics, and my standout has to be the Lionel & Cie Baie Orientale Rouge. This unique blend of Pinot Noir and Syrah from the south of France is the perfect combination of delicate Pinot and robust Syrah create a harmonious blend of dark fruit and chocolate.' Maja, Bristol

'A day can be a long old thing, a week can move slower than a glacier and a month can drag like an anchor. A year though, that seems to move at a pace that’s hard to quantify. I’ve drunk some tasty kit over the last 365 days - see Bodega Peique Godello - with persistent acidity and a salty wash or the voluptuous Holden Manz Big G. But this year belongs to the Capo Ferato Cannonoau.  With its nose of sage, thyme and wild mint a structured body an athlete would be proud of. High acidity gives way to well structured tannins and a delicate flavour of cherry bakewell. Hats off then to this beaut from Sardinia - my wine of the year.' Joss, Bristol

'Joining Le Vignoble this year has enlightened my taste and palate! I discovered the wonders of German wine and with it one of my favourite wines of the year. Maximin Grünhaus’ Pinot Blanc has shone, with 20 months on lees it imparts a beautiful creaminess to match the bright kiwi and yellow floral notes on the nose. A delicate and beautiful wine, my pick of the year!' Gabby, Bristol
